Description

The person in this position performs the duties in assisting management primarily in computer technical support. The job comes with many intangible perks, in particular a supportive, fun work environment. The position primarily calls for solid interpersonal skills in working with staff & faculty in troubleshooting technical issues with client workstations, including hardware and software issues and functionality. These duties include responding to support requests and performing assigned projects. Examples of projects include computer setup & configuration, following inventory procedures, some end-user training, and communication with vendors for product research and support. This person must be organized and be comfortable learning new technology skills as required.

Responsibilities

Primary Secondary
  • Troubleshooting basic software and hardware issues with client workstations
  • Perform basic, periodic software/operating system updates of client machines
  • Developing creative means of meeting client's technical needs using existing resources
  • Training interns, staff, and faculty on basic technical competencies
  • Assist with inventory management
  • Backup various technical roles

Competencies

Required Preferred
  • Mac OS 10.5+ and Win 7 OS
  • MS Office for Mac 2011 and MS Office for Win 2007
  • Virus, trojan, malware removal
  • Hardware and Software troubleshooting
  • Communication and Organizational skills
  • Conceptual understanding of servers and connectivity
  • Cloud computing (such as Box, DropBox, et cetera)
  • Database design and input (Filemaker and MS Access)
  • Web design and maintenance
  • Inventory experience
  • Budget experience
  • OS X 10.6 + Server

Experience

  • 1-2 years of directly related experience with the above competencies
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills
  • Solid communication skills (written, oral, and listening)
  • Must have ability to work independently as well as be a team player and be able to find creative strategies to meet client needs

Description

Responsibilities

Primary Secondary
  • Provide clerical assistance to staff and faculty
  • Organize and conduct meetings (such as Student Commission)
  • Take inventory of operational supplies
  • Offer professional, friendly front-line interaction
  • Other tasks as required

Qualifications

Required Preferred
  • Have good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Have completed at least two semesters at the University of Utah
  • Have and maintain a 3.25 cumulative GPA
  • Maintain full-time student status (15 hours per semester) during the period of the internship
  • Have word processing/computer skills
  • Understanding of cloud computing (such as Box, DropBox, et cetera)
  • Flexibility in schedule
  • Web and print design skills
  • Self-motivated personality

Experience
