Scholarship Opportunities

The LEAP Program and Undergraduate Studies accept scholarship applications annually beginning in January. Scholarship opportunities for the current academic year are shown below.

Please review scholarship requirements carefully before beginning an online application. If you have questions regarding your application please contact Alison Flanders (regarding LEAP scholarships) or Dannielle Moriondo (regarding Undergraduate Studies scholarships).

Please read the information below carefully before proceeding.

General Requirements

In order to be considered for LEAP and/or Undergraduate Studies scholarships, applicants must:

  • Be admitted to or currently attending the University of Utah
  • Be a full-time student (15 credit hours) progressing satisfactorily toward their first undergraduate degree
  • Have graduated from a Utah high school OR be a US citizen OR legally present in the US.

In addition to the general requirements above, the scholarships listed below may have unique requirements, such as communities and/or academic programs you must be a part of, additional essays/personal statements, references, writing samples, or FAFSA applications. It is your responsibility to adhere to and/or provide any additional documentation that may be required.

Important Notice

The scholarship opportunities below are privately funded and are therefore exempt from the general state law that requires certification of U.S. citizen or lawfully present non-citizen status. If a student graduated from a high school within the state of Utah and is applying for only privately funded awards that are administered by the University of Utah, no certification is required.

Some of the opportunities below require proof of financial need. All applicants with a Social Security number are encouraged to complete a federal financial aid (FAFSA) application. DACA students may contact the Dream Center with questions.

Students not able to file FAFSA online may complete a paper form and contact the University of Utah Office of Scholarship and Financial Aid at FinancialAid@utah.edu  for more information.

 

 

 

  • Community Partners – Renewal – Multiple $2,000 awards
    • Application to continue participating in the Community Partners in the New U student Experience program. Applicants must be in good academic and program standing at the time of application.
  • June Mason Konrad Scholarship – One $1,000 Award
    • Preference will be given to entering freshmen students who have graduated from a high school in Box Elder County, Utah and demonstrate financial need.
      • Salt Lake Country Club Scholarship - Multiple $4,000 Awards
      • Salt Lake Country Club Scholarship - Multiple $4,000 Awards
        • The Salt Lake Country Club Scholarship provides up to four $4,000 scholarships to a current Salt Lake Country Club employee. Applicant must also be an undergraduate student and attending the University of Utah full-time during the 2019/2020 academic year.
      • The Salt Lake Country Club Scholarship provides up to four $4,000 scholarships to a current Salt Lake Country Club employee. Applicant must also be an undergraduate student and attending the University of Utah full-time during the 2020/2021 academic year.
  • EAE NextGen Scholarship - One $1,200 Award 
    • The EAE NextGen Scholarship provides one $1,200 scholarship to an undergraduate student in the entertainment Arts and Engineering program and attending the University of Utah full-time during the 2021/2022 academic year. Preference will be given to first generation students and/or to students participating in the LEAP program. 

    • Student Success  One $7,000 Award
      • The Student Success Scholarship offers a $7,000 award to an entering freshman participating in a learning community. In their subsequent academic years, recipients are eligible to receive up to two $1,000 awards for participation in deeply engaged learning experiences as well as a $1,000 award for participation in a Capstone Initiatives project. Students with financial need will be given priority consideration. 
    • Student Success – Renewal – Multiple $1,000 Awards
      • To be eligible for the Student Success Renewal Scholarship you must:
      • Have received the Student Success Scholarship in the past
      • Plan to participate in Deeply Engaged Learning Experience or Capstone Project next year
      • Attend full time during the semesters in which you are awarded renewal
      • Maintain a 3.3 GPA
      • Be pursuing your first undergraduate degree
    • Travis Rigby Scholarship  Multiple $5,000 Awards
      • Available to Daily Utah Chronicle staff members with preference given to staff writers. These scholarships are available to full-time (15 credit hours or more) students at the University of Utah.
    • LEAP Asha Davenport Memorial Scholarship - Two $2,000 Awards
      • Asha was a freshman at the University of Utah at the time of her accidental death. She loved University life and all it had to offer. She was a member of the Pi Beta Phi Sorority and also a devoted member of the MUSS. She especially enjoyed her Service Learning LEAP class. Asha loved community service and helping others. The Davenport family is giving two $2,000 scholarships to LEAP students. 
      • Additional Scholarship Requirements: minimum 2.5 GPA.   For LEAP students only.  Students must have completed two semesters of LEAP by May 2019.
      • Required Documents: Please provide a typed statement of about 500 words written by the student addressing the topic: "How my LEAP experience has advanced my understanding of community service on campus or in my local community"  Help with writing strong personal statements can be obtained at the Writing Center, the Career Center, and from Student Success Advocates.  Funding Provided by the Asha Davenport Family.
    • LEAP Diversity-Need Scholarship - $2,000 Awards
      • This scholarship is for LEAP students who have demonstrated financial need, belong to or have demonstrated experience serving and working with traditionally marginalized and/or diverse communities, and demonstrate involvement in University and/or community activities with an emphasis on leadership and service. Several $2,000 scholarships will be awarded. Funding provided by Ruth Eleanor and John Ernest Bamberger Memorial Foundation and Goudie Trust.
      • Additional Scholarship Requirements:  minimum 2.0 GPA.  Applicant must demonstrate financial need by completing the FAFSA.  If you have questions on whether you can apply for federal student aid, please review the website:  studentaid.ed.gov/sa/eligibility/non-us-citizens.  If you don't feel you are eligible for FAFSA, please contact Timothy Despain at TDespain@sa.utah.edu or the U's Dream Center at (801)213-3697 or dream@utah.edu.  Students must have completed two semesters of LEAP by May 2019. 
      • Required Documents:  Typed personal statement of about 500 words written by the student addressing one of the following two topics: 1) "How my LEAP experience has advanced my understanding of community" or 2) "How I have worked with or been a part of marginalized and/or diverse communities and in what way this has impacted my life and university experience."  Help with writing strong personal statements can be obtained at the Writing Center, the Career Center, and from Student Success Advocates.
    • LEAP Multi-Year LEAP Scholarship 
      • This scholarship is for LEAP students who are enrolled in the LEAP multi-year courses, which include Health Science and Pre-Law. Funding provided by Henry W. & Leslie M Eskuche Foundation and Goudie Trust.
      • Additional Scholarship Requirements:  minimum 2.0 GPA.  Applicant must demonstrate financial need by completing FAFSA.  If you have questions on whether you can apply for federal student aid, please review the website:  studentaid.ed.gov/sa/eligibility/non-us-citizens.  If you don't feel you are eligible for FAFSA, please contact Timothy Despain at TDespain@sa.utah.edu or the U's Dream Center at (801)213-3697 or dream@utah.edu.  Must have completed two semesters of LEAP by May 2019.  
      • Required Documents:  Typed personal statement of 500 words written by the student addressing the topic: "How my experience in my Multi-Year LEAP course(s) has impacted my university experience."  Help with writing strong personal statements can be obtained at the Writing Center, the Career Center, and from Student Success Advocates.
    • LEAP STEM Minorities and Refuges LEAP
      • This scholarship will provide five $1000 Scholarship for Spring 2020 to students in STEM Minorities or Refuges LEAP.

         

  • Boyce C. Yanik Upperclassman – Two $5,000 Scholarships for Spring 2021
      • The C. Boyce Yanik scholarship provides two $5,000 scholarships to a first-generation undergraduate junior/senior student attending University of Utah during the 2020/21 academic year enrolling in 15 or more credits. Student must be seeking their first undergraduate degree and be able to demonstrate financial need to be eigible.
  • Zumbro Family Scholarship – Two $5,000 Awards
    • Awards are available to individuals from a federally-recognized American Indian Tribe, with a preference for students who are enrolled members of or have at least one parent or grandparent who is an enrolled member of one of Utah’s Tribes.  

  • Ivory Homes Scholarship – Renewal – Up to $2,000
    • These scholarships are available to students who have demonstrated experience serving and working with the Latina/Latino community. Applicants must be entering freshmen or SLCC transfer students with preference given to first generation students. 
  • Utah Community Action Scholarship – One Full Tuition and Housing Award
    • Provides tuition for 15 credit hours, room and board for one year; Fall and Spring semesters during the 2021/22 academic year only. Both incoming and continuing University of Utah students who have participated in a Salt Lake or Tooele County Utah Community Action Head Start Program (formerly Salt Lake Community Action Program Head Start) as a child are eligible to apply for this scholarship.

  • The Barbara Hancock Snyder Endowed Scholarship - one $2,000 Award 
    • The Barbara Hancock Snyder Endowed Scholarship provides one $2,000 scholarship to an undergraduate student attending the University of Utah full-time during 2021/2022 academic year and a affiliated with Dream Center
